State archaeologist Jonathan Leader and a crew of volunteers have resumed the search for Brandy Hanna.

The crew began the day before 8 a.m. Tuesday by digging into the earth where North Charleston police found a shoe that may have belonged to Hanna, who has been missing since 2005.

Leader is using a sifter to go through buckets of dirt collected at the scene.

There is no public or media access to the site, so information is hard to come by. Police have not said when they might announce if any further clues are found at the site.

The dig area is behind a fence on the old Navy base and about a mile from the Florida Avenue apartment where Hanna was last seen on May 20, 2005.
