COLUMBIA — A former soldier has been convicted of killing two men in their yard in Richland County last year.
The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/vK06cB) a jury deliberated more than two days before returning the verdict Wednesday against Leslie Todd Parvin of Columbia
Prosecutors said Parvin shot Edgar Lopez and Pablo Gutierrez-Guzman after Parvin paid Lopez $200 for sex and Lopez backed out of the arrangement.
Parvin said he shot the men in self-defense. He said stopped to ask the men where he could find scrap metal. Parvin said he became concerned about the men’s behavior and they tried to prevent him from leaving.
Prosecutors say after the shooting, Parvin shaved his head, destroyed his gun and fled to Louisiana where he had the family’s minivan destroyed.
He has not been sentenced.
