SPARTANBURG- The University of South Carolina Upstate has received a $1 million donation for its business school being built in downtown Spartanburg.
The school said Tuesday that Stewart Heath Johnson, chief executive of Morgan Corporation, and his wife, Ann Cobb Johnson, made the donation.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported that Stewart Johnson is the brother of George Dean Johnson Jr., who recently donated $6 million for the project, which will bear his name.
Stewart Johnson says the gift is to honor his brother and Cobb's father, James David Cobb. The atrium will be dedicated for Cobb.
USC Upstate broke ground for the $30 million George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business and Economics earlier this month. It is being built downtown, while the main campus is near Interstate 85 north of the city.
