COLUMBIA — The University of South Carolina says its new Darla Moore School of Business will be more than classrooms.
The university says the $105 million building set to open at the end of 2013 in Columbia will include research labs and will have the flexibility to allow almost all classrooms to become distance learning centers.
The building will include a lecture hall designed so the nearby School of Music can use it for performances.
The university broke ground on the new building Friday in ceremonies forced inside because of rain. The building will be beside the old Carolina Coliseum several blocks from the Statehouse.
The business school’s old building will be renovated by the U.S. Justice Department, which is moving some of its U.S. attorney operations from Washington to South Carolina.
