GEORGETOWN — Transportation officials say emergency repairs continue on the bridge on U.S. 701, which runs from Georgetown to Conway.
The bridge over the Great Pee Dee River has been closed since Monday morning when a truck driver was killed after his vehicle ran off the span into the marsh below.
Officials say the wreck damaged part of the bridge’s railing, which will have to be fixed before it can be reopened. The Department of Transportation thinks the work should finish by noon Wednesday.
U.S. 701 is the only direct route between Conway and Georgetown. Transportation officials say about 3,700 vehicles use the bridge every day.
Traffic is now being rerouted more than a dozen miles away through Hemingway.
