Sullivan’s Island Elementary School will dismiss students early today because of a water main break on Rifle Range Road.
Mount Pleasant Waterworks intends to shut off water at 1 p.m., necessitating the 12:30 p.m. release of students.
Buses are scheduled to arrive at the school at noon.
Parents are being contacted now, according to Charleston County School District officials.
Students who remain at the school will be supervised by school staff until a parent can pick them up.
The town has already announced that Rifle Range Road is closed until this evening because of the water line break.
The lane, which is on the same side as Sullivan’s Island Elementary School, will be closed from now until about 10 p.m. between Harbor Gate subdivision and Myrick Road.
The line was damaged about 4:30 a.m. by a paving contractor’s equipment.
Mount Pleasant Waterworks is working with the police department to make a safe traveling path for local traffic.
