COLUMBIA — The Columbia TEA Party announced Wednesday that Donald Trump, potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate, will speak May 19 at the Statehouse.
The group (Taxed Enough Already) will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. on the north steps.
Trump is expected to talk about his thoughts on how to get our country moving again and the need for further tax reduction, according to Allen Olson, chairman of the local TEA Party.
"I am excited to hear Donald Trump speak," Olson said. He added that the Columbia TEA Party does not endorse candidates.
Trump spokesman Michael Cohen confirmed the mogul's appearance.
Olson said the group will also issue Roll Call Champion awards to Gov. Nikki Haley, Rep. Nathan Ballentine, R-Chapin, Sen. Larry Martin, R-Pickens, Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Gaffney, Ashley Landess, president of the South Carolina Policy Council, and Talbert Black, South Carolina coordinator for the Campaign for Liberty.
Olson said the awards will go to the key players who helped push lawmakers to take roll call on their votes.
