The Federal Reserve's Open Market Committee begins a two-day meeting to set interest rates.

WEDNESDAY

U.S. Commerce Department releases retail sales data for November.

U.S. Commerce Department releases business inventories for October.

The National Association of Home Builders releases its housing market index for December.

Federal Reserve policymakers conclude a two-day meeting on interest rates and release a statement at 2 p.m. They are not expected to change their strategy of keeping borrowing costs low.

THURSDAY

Delivery giant FedEx Corp. reports quarterly financial results, providing a glimpse into online retail sales during the holiday shopping season. 

Home loan financier Freddie Mac releases weekly mortgage rates. Last week, they paused. The 30-year fixed-rate average was unchanged at its all-time low of 2.71%, down from 3.73% a year ago. The 15-year fixed-rate average held steady at 2.26%.

General Mills reports quarterly financial results.

U.S. Commerce Department releases housing starts for November.

U.S. Labor Department releases its weekly report on unemployment benefits.
