North Charleston police say they arrested a 17-year-old who robbed one person and tried to rob another at Northwoods Mall this afternoon.

Investigators charged Nicholas Dice, 17, of Law Boulevard in North Charleston with armed robbery and attempted armed robbery, Capt. Scott Deckard said.

Deckard said officers responded to an attempted armed robbery Jason's Deli at Northwoods Mall at 12:48 p.m. The suspect approached someone and demanded money but the victim walked away, prompting the suspect to run away.

As officers were speaking to the victim at 1:02 p.m. witnesses reported an armed robbery at the Belk department store. Witnesses told police the suspect approached the victim with a handgun and demanded money before running away.

The description of the suspect was similar to the suspect in the first incident, Deckard said. Officers saw the suspect running near the Carolina Ice Palace and captured him. They recovered the gun at the scene.

Dice is expected to appear at a bond hearing in the morning.
