WALTERBORO -- Arrest warrants were served today on an armed robbery suspect who survived being shot last month by a clerk who got control of the gun and fired at his assailants, killing one and wounding the other.

Nigel Amir Holmes, 19, of 33037 Lowcountry Highway, Smoaks, is charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to arrest warrants released by the State Law Enforcement Division. He was being held in Colleton County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Holmes is accused of being one of two men who tried to rob the Kangaroo Express at 1111 Sniders Highway shortly after 10 p.m. on July 6.

The robbers walked into the store and jammed a Glock pistol into the clerk's abdomen, according to a Walterboro Public Safety Office report.
