COLUMBIA — A man accused of killing his wife and three of her children is scheduled to appear in a South Carolina courtroom to fight his extradition back to Virginia.
The South Carolina attorney general’s office said a lawyer for 36-year-old John Ragin will oppose efforts Friday to bring him back to Newport News, Va., where he faces four counts of first-degree murder and five other charges.
Authorities say Ragin killed his wife, Crystal, and her children, 15-year-old Sierra, 10-year-old Rasheed and 6-year-old Lakwan last month. Police say the victims appeared to be stabbed and burned.
Investigators say Ragin left a 5-year-old boy he had with his wife at a relative’s house in Clarendon County, and was arrested a short time later.
Ragin has denied any role in the deaths.
