Suspect in rape, burglary surrenders to Colleton authorities

WALTERBORO -- A suspect in a November rape and burglary was in custody today, authorities said.

Clyde Lewis Williams, 25, turned himself in at the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release.

Williams is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary, the release said.

He is accused of forcing himself into the home of a 17-year-old female on Nov. 19 and sexually assaulting her.

The victim and the suspect knew each other prior to the incident, the release said. The suspect is accused of using force to enter the residence and to accomplish the sexual assault.

He was being held in the Colleton County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
