AIKEN — A man suspected of beating a Georgia woman and killing two South Carolina women and setting their bodies on fire has been arrested.

Richmond County. Ga., Sheriff’s Lt. Calvin Chew says 55-year-old Franklin Wright was arrested late Monday near Augusta.

Authorities had been searching for Wright since last week after a woman was found beaten and bleeding in her convenience store in Georgia.

South Carolina authorities say Wright is charged with murder in the killings of 38-year-old Shalamar Byrd and 75-year-old Yana Schenker. Both women were strangled and their bodies burned in Aiken County last month.

Authorities have not revealed a motive for the beating or the killings. Chew did not know if Wright had an attorney or when he would have a bond hearing.
