A North Charleston convenience store clerk has been arrested after allegedly depositing $950 in counterfeit currency.

Lashawn Monique Backman, 27, a clerk at the Circle K on West Montague Avenue, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with forgery, North Charleston Police said.

An incident report said Backman built up her till through the night, later putting $950 in the deposit safe. At one point, she allegedly turned away from a security camera and started to move something around in her pockets, the report said. "She then deposited $950 in fake U.S. currency," the report said.

The currency was in $50 and $100 bills. The bills had the same serial number on each denomination, the report said.
