Wofford can wrap up at least a share of the Southern Conference championship today with a home victory over Georgia Southern, but we have come to expect that from the tenacious Terriers.
Clemson and South Carolina able to clinch conference championship game appearances on the same day?
These double high stakes deserve a double-take.
Yes, Clemson lost a heartbreaker at Florida State last November the same night South Carolina won the SEC East at Florida. But this combined glory stuff is almost as unprecedented as Boise State fan clubs in Tuscaloosa.
The No. 9 Tigers have it easier than the No. 15 Gamecocks.
Clemson can seal its trip to Charlotte as ACC Atlantic Division champs with a Death Valley triumph over Wake Forest, while South Carolina needs a win over Florida coupled with a Georgia loss to Auburn to earn its second straight SEC championship game appearance.
Consider that Clemson hasn't won an ACC title since 1991, and that South Carolina's only league title banner reads "1969 Atlantic Coast Conference Champions."
All of which makes my battle with Warren Peper seem so much less important.
