Like participating in Pigskin Picks picking, planning back-to-back trips to Jordan- Hare Stadium is all about preparation.

Tonight, it's a big game, Clemson vs. Auburn to cap "GameDay" festivities.

Next week, it's probably a bigger game, South Carolina vs. Auburn with both teams trying to rise with the Tide.

Clemson coaches are counting on all kinds of craziness from Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who works from the field, not the pressbox. Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele this week was so busy he pressed his notepad against the inside wall of a WestZone elevator between floors to take advantage of several more precious seconds to coordinate.

Clemson offensive coordinator Billy Napier prepared by reminding people that Auburn plays defense, too.

"You're dealing with a pretty savvy veteran group that's been a part of some tough games," Napier said.

I prepared by anticipating lots of country music blaring from truck stops and rest stops between Jedburg and Jordan-Hare, surely including (though not confined to) Kevin Fowler's "Beer, Bait and Ammo."

Clemson at Auburn

An ACC quarterback/Colorado Rockies signee led his team to a prime-time, nationally televised non-conference win this week. And maybe Kyle Parker at Auburn can duplicate Russell Wilson's feat Thursday night against Cincinnati.

Peper pick: Auburn, 21-14.

Sapakoff pick: Auburn, 21-20.

Furman at South Carolina

Ideally for the Gamecocks, four guys not named Marcus Lattimore combine for 200 yards rushing.

Peper pick: South Carolina, 40-6.

Sapakoff pick: S. Carolina, 31-0.

Presbyterian at The Citadel

The real season starts now for both teams.

Peper pick: The Citadel, 24-14.

S.C. State at Benedict

Benedict fans want this to become a true rivalry game, but for now the Bulldogs are determined to demonstrate more dominance.

Peper pick: S.C. State, 38-10.

Sapakoff pick: S.C. State, 56-14.

Georgia Tech at N. Carolina

A critical ACC Coastal Division clash. The loser might have serious problems bouncing back.

Peper pick: North Carolina, 17-14.

Sapakoff pick: Georgia Tech, 21-16.

BYU at Florida State

The Seminoles won, 54-28, in Provo, Utah, last year.

Peper pick: Florida State, 31-22.

Vanderbilt at Ole Miss

The game the SEC office doesn't want you to see.

Peper pick: Ole Miss, 28-10.

Sapakoff pick: Ole Miss, 27-17.

Notre Dame at Mich. St.

The Irish must split the next four games (also including Stanford, Boston College and Pittsburgh) to have a nice eight-win season. Revenge game for Michigan State after a 33-30 loss last season.

Peper pick: Mich. St., 21-17.

Sapakoff pick: Notre Dame, 31-30.
