New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will be the keynote speaker at the South Atlantic League’s annual awards and hall of fame induction ceremony in Charleston next month. The event is associated with the SAL All-Star Game to be played at Riley Park on June 19.
The awards and induction ceremony is set for 11:45 a.m. at the Marriott on Lockwood Boulevard. The all-star game will be played that evening. Tickets are available for the luncheon and game. For info, contact the Charleston RiverDogs at (843) 577-3647 or go to riverdogs.com.
Joining Cashman on the stage will be members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2012, including Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. and RiverDogs co-owner Bill Murray. Also being enshrined is former Asheville Tourists front office executive Carolyn McKee. The 2012 SAL all-star players will also attend.
“It will be great to be with the fans in Charleston, who continue to support our Single-A affiliate RiverDogs,” Cashman said “The Yankees organization is very proud of our relationship with the RiverDogs, a group that is known as much for entertaining their fans as they are for developing players.”
During his tenure as general manager, the Yankees have captured four World Series championships and six AL pennants.
After the luncheon, Murray will lead a parade of all-stars on a short procession from the Marriott to Riley Park for the All-Star Game’s Fan Fest, which begins at 2:30 p.m. in front of Riley Park. Fan Fest is free and open to the public, and will feature all members of the all-star teams signing free autographs.
Gates open at 4 p.m. at Riley Park for the beginning of the All-Star festivities, which includes a home run derby. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
