The Bulldogs fell into an early 5-0 hole and did not recover in their opening game of the Homewood Suites Shootout.
The Citadel (1-4) is off to its worst start since the 1998 season. Wright State (1-4) notched its first victory of the season. Earlier in the day, after a rain delay, Old Dominion defeated Wright State, 3-2.
Senior left-handed pitcher Matt Talley was hit hard in the second inning when Wright State sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring five runs.
Coming out of the bullpen and shutting down Wright State for the remainder of the game was junior right-hander T.J. Clarkson. Matt Simonelli led the offense, going 3-for-3.
The continues today as Wright State and Old Dominion face-off at 11 a.m. The Citadel and Old Dominion then take the field for a 3 p.m. start.
