COLUMBIA — After becoming the first freshman ever to post consecutive 20-point games at South Carolina, A’ja Wilson has tied the record for most Freshman of the Week honors awarded by the SEC.

The Gamecocks forward received her fifth Freshman of the Week award from the league Monday, tying a record also held by teammate Alaina Coates, last season’s Freshman of the Year. Wilson shared her latest honor with Victoria Vivians of Mississippi State.

Wilson scored a career-high 26 points in a victory Thursday against LSU, and followed that with 20 in South Carolina’s win Sunday against Vanderbilt. Wilson, a Hopkins native, is averaging 13.9 points per game, second on the team. Her 6.9 rebounds per contest also rank second on the squad.

The Gamecocks (24-1, 12-0 SEC) and Tennessee remain the lone two teams unbeaten in SEC play heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. South Carolina travels to Arkansas for a 9 p.m. game Thursday before returning to Colonial Life Arena for a Feb. 23 game against Tennessee.
