MOUNT PLEASANT -- There's no such thing as an ugly win.

Well, Wando football coach Jimmy Noonan would beg to differ.

Stephen Wilson rushed for 88 yards and Nathaniel Wright scored a touchdown to lead Wando past James Island, 14-7, on Friday before a crowd of more than 5,000 at Wando Stadium.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Warriors (2-2). James Island (3-1) lost for the first time this season.

The Warriors managed just 199 yards of offense and turned the ball over four times.

"It was a sloppy game, but anytime you're in the 'victory' formation at the end of the game that's best formation to be in," Noonan said. "It was a win and that's about the only good thing I can say about this game. Other than that, we've got a lot of work to do."

The Warriors' victory overshadowed a strong performance from James Island quarterback Justin Bolus, who outgained Wando by himself. The 6-3, 205-pound Bolus rushed for 147 yards on 25 attempts and threw for 88 more yards and a TD.

"(Bolus) is a great all-around athlete," Noonan said. "He's a load to bring down."

The Warriors defense was solid all game, led by defensive end Gimel President, who finished with 10 tackles, including two stops for loss and a caused fumble.

"Yeah, the defense played well all night," Noonan said. "They really didn't let James Island's offense get into any rhythm. We switched to a four-man front and I think that helped us."

The Warriors took a 7-0 lead when Tanner Cleary recovered a James Island fumble in the end zone for a touchdown on the Trojans first offensive possession.

James Island answered on Bolus' 11-yard TD pass to Devin Brown early in the second quarter.

Wilson scored the game-winner when he capped a 10-play, 65-yard drive with a 16-yard TD run with 4:13 left in the third quarter.
