Waterfront Park litter cleanup on Saturday

Last year, these three sustainable-minded companies and some 40 volunteers picked up 813 lbs. of garbage and recyclables and laid the foundation for a new oyster reef using over 15,000 lbs. of oyster shells in Charleston. (Provided)

Members of the community can help improve local waterways by volunteering with Belk, sustainable swimwear company ECO SWIM by Aqua Green and outdoor apparel company United by Blue on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park to remove litter from the park at the base of the Ravenel Bridge, including the marshy area along the Cooper River.

All volunteers will be provided with event T-shirts, breakfast, snacks, water, trash bags, gloves and sunscreen. Volunteers are strongly advised to wear closed-toe and supportive shoes.
