Wando sets three meet records on opening day

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Wando set three Charleston County Track and Field Championship records Tuesday in the first day of the county meet on Tuesday.

The Warriors' Sara Lee set a record in the girls' pole vault, clearing 11 feet, 1 inch to help the Warriors take the lead after the first day.

Wando, which scored 24 points in the pole vault, leads the way with 80 1/2 points. James Island is second with 39, and West Ashley and Academic Magnet are tied for third place with 30 1/2 points.

The Warriors boys set two records. Desmond Venning won the discus with a heave of 168-4, while the 4x800-meter relay team won with a clocking of 8:20.l1.

The Warrior boys lead with 80 points. West Ashley is second with 51 1/2, and James Island is third with 36.

Burke's Raven Saunders was a dual winner, with gold medals in the girls' shot and discus.

The first day of the meet was held at Wando. Action resumes today at West Ashley.
