Wando basketball standout Amp Moore has signed to play at Newberry College, the school announced Wednesday.
Moore, a 6-4 guard, averaged 12 points, six assists and five rebounds as a senior and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game. As a junior, he scored 12 points with 10 rebounds and nine assists in the state championship as Wando won last season.
“Amp Moore is one of my all-time favorite players,” said former Wando coach David Eaton, who left to coach at Greater Atlanta Christian. “He has great work ethic, he is capable of leading the team in every statistical area and he is a true student of the game.”
“We are very fortunate to get Amp and I am really looking forward to having Amp in the Newberry basketball program,” said Newberry coach Dave Davis. “He has a high basketball IQ and he brings a work ethic that is outstanding and is necessary to compete and succeed here at Newberry. Amp did everything for his high school team. He played all positions including most of his senior year at the point. He scores, rebounds the basketball unbelievably well for a guard, sees the floor, passes exceptionally and defends. If you understand the game of basketball, you love to watch Amp Moore play.”
