The boys tennis teams from Wando, Oceanside and Philip Simmons will play for S.C. High School League state championships this weekend in Florence.

All three teams were finalists a year ago with two of the teams returning as state champions. Wando will play J.L. Mann for the Class AAAAA championship at 10 a.m. on May 7. Wando has reached the finals in each of the last three seasons (excluding 2020 due to COVID-19). The Warriors lost in the championship match in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Oceanside Collegiate returns to the Class AAA finals as the defending state champion. The Landsharks will take on Upper State champion Daniel in matches beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Daniel is making its first appearance in the finals since 1982.

Philip Simmons is seeking a third consecutive state title, winning in 2019 and 2021.

“This is an extremely special group of young men, not only on the court but in the classroom as well,” Philip Simmons coach Richard Schulz said.

The Iron Horses will take on perennial state title contender Christ Church in the Class AA finals at 1 p.m. Christ Church has won more state championships (24) than any other program in SCSHL history.
