GREENVILLE, N.C. -- After going five years without a team tournament victory of any kind, the South Carolina women's golf team won the NCAA East Regional on Saturday, posting a 54-hole score of 864 to defeat Tennessee by two shots.

The College of Charleston (921) finished 22nd and Charleston Southern (948) was 23rd.

New Citadel coach Chuck Driesell hired Spartanburg Methodist head coach Rob Burke as an assistant coach, according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

Burke had a 117-68 record in six seasons at the junior college, and also has coached at Limestone and Campbell.

"It's been six good years," Burke told the Spartanburg paper. "But I'm like any of my players. They want to become NCAA Division I players and I want to become a Division I head coach at some time. You have to take another step. This is the right step."
