South Carolina's national championship baseball program keeps turning wins into fans.

USC has sold a record 5,492 season tickets as of Wednesday for the upcoming season at Carolina Stadium, which begins Feb. 17 with a three-game series against VMI. The total comes on the heels of USC's second consecutive NCAA title, a two-year period in which the team has posted a 109-30 record.

The figure also exceeds last season's total of 4,990 sold.


Jeff Peck of Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte posted a two-round total of 135, 7-under- par, to win his second straight EZ-GO Pro-Am golf tournament at the Links and Harbor courses at the Isle of Palms' Wild Dunes Resort. Steve Isley of Oak Island, N.C., was second at 137, while Greg Boyette of Bulls Bay Golf Club finished third at 138.

Eric Kauppinen of Carmel Country Club in Charlotte and his amateur partners won the team division at 257, two shots better than the team led by Randy Glover of Charleston.


The Citadel wrestling team opens Southern Conference play today against Appalachian State, the match set for 7 p.m. at McAlister Field House.

The Bulldogs are 4-6 this season, including three wins over ACC squads.

Bulldogs heavyweight Odie Delaney was named SoCon wrestler of the week after going 5-0 with three pins last week.

App State is 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the SoCon. Last year, The Citadel beat App State, 26-7.
