USC, Cougars clash today at Patriots Point

The Gamecocks have won the last seven meetings with the College of Charleston, dating back to the 2008 season. Last year South Carolina won both meetings, rolling to a 24-4 win in Columbia and taking an 8-3 victory at Patriots Point.

The Cougars’ last victory in the series was in 2007 when the College of Charleston took a 5-4, 10-inning decision in Charleston.

Senior right-hander Ryan West (2-2, 3.3 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Cougars, and junior lefty Adam Westmoreland (1-0, 2.70 ERA) is expected to start for South Carolina.

The College of Charleston ?(21-8) has won six of its last eight games, but lost two out of three at Georgia Southern over the weekend to drop into a tie for second at 11-4 in the Southern Conference. The Cougars visit league-leading Appalachian State (22-5, 7-2) this weekend.

The Gamecocks (20-8) have won three of their last four games and took two out of three over the weekend at Vanderbilt.
