U.S. Kids Golf, a tour for players ages 5-14, will begin a spring tour in the Charleston area in February with plans for a year-round series.

The Spring Charleston schedule is: Feb. 2, Dunes West; Feb. 8, Links at Stono Ferry; March 2, Patriots Point; March 9, Harbor Course-Wild Dunes; March 30; Legend Oaks; and April 14, RiverTowne.

During a round at Charleston Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday, Terry Blankenship accomplished two goals golfers strive for - he made a hole-in-one and shot better than his age. Blankenship aced the 14th hole from 91 yards with a pitching wedge and managed to shoot 79, bettering his age by nine strokes. It was Blankenship's 14th hole-in-one.

Pinewood Prep golfer Reona Hirai, who has signed to play with Furman, was named the Carolinas Golf Association Junior Girls player of the year. Hirai, who won the South Carolina Junior Golf Association's Beth Daniel Award, had three victories and six other finishes of seventh place or higher.

Charleston Municipal took first place, scoring 18 points, in the Charleston Area Men's Interclub Golf Association match played at Charleston National. Charleston National finished second with 4 points. Bill Richardson of Legend Oaks was the top individual with 11 points. Robert Lindley of Pine Forest was second with 9 points.

Municipal leads the yearly standings after two matches with 22 points, followed by: Dunes West and Pine Forest, 20; Charleston National, 18; and Stono Ferry, 17.

Ethan Willis of Mount Pleasant shot 83-73-156 to finish first in the boys 11-14 age group at Old South in Bluffton. Savannah Hallman of Mount Pleasant shot 81-79-160 to finish third in the girls 15-18 age group.

The Hurricane Junior Golf Tour Kiawah Island Junior Challenge will be played Feb. 8-9 at Kiawah Island's Cougar Point course. The event is open to golfers ages 11-18. Visit hjgt.org for information.
