Democratic candidate for Congress Linda Ketner launched a new TV ad in her race against 1st District Republican Henry Brown this week that focuses on Brown's widely publicized fight with the U.S. Forestry Service over a controlled burn he started that escalated.

Brown paid nearly $4,750 for a March 2004 wind-fed burn on his property that also burned 20 acres of the adjacent Francis Marion National Forest.

News accounts contend Brown tried to intimidate the agency in the investigation's aftermath, including claims by whistle-blowers that Brown threatened the agency's funding.

Brown contends his response and protest of a criminal citation helped set fairer agency policy in dealing with accidental fires.
