ST. STEPHEN -- The Timberland Wolves' defense rose to the occasion, forcing a pair of Berkeley fumbles, the last coming with just 2:03 left in the game to preserve a 24-21 victory Friday night.
The Wolves' Mike Wilson recovered a Tevin Bradshaw fumble on the Stags' 43-yard line and Timberland's offense killed the clock to preserve the win.
"This was a hard-fought game, and they played better than we did," said Berkeley coach Jerry Brown.
For Timberland, it was all about self-belief and confidence.
"If you believe in yourself, you can make it happen," Wolves head coach Art Craig said to his team after the win. "You believed, and you made it happen."
Timberland countered a pair of Rahkeem White big-play touchdowns with a balanced offensive attack
orchestrated by understudy quarterback Taylor Elizondo. Byron Mayes, Adam June and Daquan Lucas all scored for the Wolves.
An Alex Krall 26-yard field goal late in the first half proved to be the margin of victory for Timberland.
White accounted for both Berkeley touchdowns, a 54-yard run up the middle in the first quarter to cut the Timberland lead to 7-6, and a 71-yard kickoff return that cut the Wolves lead to 17-14 early in the third quarter.
Timberland improves to 4-0 and is off next week. Berkeley drops to 1-2 and hosts Manning.
