3 Tigers preseason All-ACC

Running back Andre Ellington, a former Berkeley High star, was joined by defensive tackle Brandon Thompson and punter Dawson Zimmerman as preseason All-ACC picks.

CLEMSON -- Three Clemson players were named to the preseason Atlantic Coast Conference football team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Berkeley High product Andre Ellington was named as one of two running backs along with Boston College back Montel Harris. Clemson defensive tackle Brandon Thompson was named to the team along with punter Dawson Zimmerman.

Ellington likely would have surpassed 1,000 yards last season if not for a toe injury that required surgery. Ellington missed four games last fall, finishing with 686 yards and a 5.8 yards per carry average. He also scored 10 touchdowns.

Zimmerman averaged 42.7 yards per punt.

Thompson is a double-team demanding tackle who figures to be one of Clemson's most integral defenders.

Florida State and Miami led all ACC schools with four players selected from each team. Florida State's E.J. Manuel was tabbed as the league's top quarterback.
