The Citadel practiced in full pads for the first time during fall camp Wednesday morning at the Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at Willson Field.
The Bulldogs worked out for two-and-a-half hours in clear and humid conditions in the mid-80s, working on one-on-one drills featuring defensive backs against wide receivers and offensive linemen against defensive linemen.
Special teams was also featured, with punt return techniques and a live field goal session with kickers Sam Keeler and Ryan Sellers.
"We finished up practice with a live two-period session of offense vs. defense," Citadel head coach Kevin Higgins said. "Defensive backs Cortez Allen and Biron Nabritt each had interceptions as the defense dominated the segment. It was good to see the emotion displayed by our 'D' after the big plays."
The Bulldogs will return to practice at Maybank Triplets Practice Facility at 8 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. today for their first two-a-day session of fall camp. S.C. State
South Carolina State completed its eighth preseason workout in Orangeburg, and with a growing number of players suffering some bumps and bruises, head coach Buddy Pough will give his team a break today.
The Bulldogs were set to hold the second of four two-a-day drills today. Instead, S.C. State will hold only an evening practice, beginning at 6 p.m. The workout will be in full pads.
"We hope the little time (Thursday morning) away from the field will refresh our guys and they will come back eager to continue our preparation," Pough said.
S.C. State will hold its first scrimmage at 10 a.m. Saturday.
