The Citadel has hired former Tennessee Tech coach Dave Zelenock as the Bulldogs' new volleyball coach, the school announced Wednesday.
Zelenock was head coach at Tennessee Tech for five years, resigning last November with a record of 41-107. His 2014 and 2015 teams advanced to the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament. His teams also had a string of 35 straight semesters with a grade-point average of 3.0 or above.
"A national search for our head volleyball coach resulted in a quality candidate pool, and Dave rose to the top as a person of character, a quality recruiter, and a developer of talent," said The Citadel's interim athletic director, Rob Acunto.
Zelenock also was an assistant coach at Central Michigan for six years, helping the Chippewas to five winning seasons and a record of 107-78 in that span. A 2005 graduate of Central Michigan, Zelenock also has worked as an assistant at Northwood University and Delaware State.
"It is clear to anyone who has spent time around The Citadel that it is a special place," Zelenock said. "My family and I are beyond excited to be joining a department so committed to cadet-athlete success in the classroom, success on the court, and success in life."
Zelenock replaces Craig Mosqueda, who had a three-year record of 23-79 at The Citadel.
