Suspended Citadel players dismissed

Suspended Citadel baseball players Drew Ellis, Austin Mapes and Phillip Watcher have been dismissed from the program, the school announced Wednesday.

The three players, all starters, had been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

Ellis, a 6-4 sophomore from Columbia, had started at first base and batted .244 with three home runs and 19 runs batted in.

Mapes, a junior outfielder from Travelers Rest, had started the first 25 games, but was batting just .219 with nine RBI.

Watcher, a sophomore infielder from Sumter, had started 21 games, batting .262 with one homer and seven RBI. He also pitches, with an 0-1 record and 6.05 earned run average in eight appearances, including three starts.

The Bulldogs fell to 12-18 with an 18-1 loss at Charleston Southern on Tuesday. The Citadel hosts SoCon foe UNC Greensboro this weekend.
