Stingrays shut out once again

Gladiators 3, Stingrays 0

Duluth, Ga. -- Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis picked up his third straight shutout, stopping all 27 shots as the Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the South Carolina Stingrays, 3-0, at The Arena at Gwinnett Center on Wednesday night.

The Stingrays (15-14-1-1) were blanked for the third time in as many days on their road trip.

The Gladiators (15-8-6-3) opened the scoring at 9:31 of the first period as forward Chris Clackson lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (34 saves on 37 shots) from the top of the right-wing circle.

Justin Milo gave the Gladiators a two-goal lead early in the second period, burying his third marker of the season at 3:06 from Shane Sims and Colin Vock. Clackson made it 3-0 at 18:42 with help from Bryan Brutlag and Andy Brandt.

Both teams went 0 for 2 on the power play.

The Stingrays return to the North Charleston Coliseum at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Florida Everblades.
