Kelly Zajac, Austin Fyten and Caleb Herbert each had a goal and an assist to lead South Carolina past Kalamazoo, 4-1, Friday night at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Stingrays lead the best-of-seven Kelly Cup quarterfinal series, 1-0, with Game 2 scheduled for Saturday night at the Wings Event Center beginning at 7 p.m.
After giving up a goal to Ludwig Blomstrand midway through the opening period, the Stingrays scored four unanswered goals over the final 50 minutes of the game.
Zajac tied the game at 1-1 less than 90 seconds after Bolmstrand’s goal.
The Stingrays scored twice in the second period, getting goals from Herbert Derek DeBlois to take a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.
Fyten added a goal five minutes into the final period.
South Carolina goalie Mark Dekanich stopped 22 of 23 shots to earn the victory for the Stingrays.
