The Charleston RiverDogs are holding an online auction for the chance to rub shoulders with retired Atlanta pitcher John Smoltz during a private meet and greet opportunity.
Smoltz, the future Hall of Famer who spent two decades with the Braves, will serve as the guest speaker for the Eighth Annual Hot Stove Banquet that is staged by the RiverDogs. The event will be held on Jan. 27, in The Crystal Ballroom at the Charleston Marriott.
Each week at noon on Friday through Jan. 27, fans will have the opportunity to bid on a limited number of available slots at riverdogs.com.
--Riley Park, home of the RiverDogs, was recognized by the South Carolina Sports Turfs Managers Association as the state's professional baseball field of the year.
It marks the second time in three years that Riley Park has won the award.
MMA fights tonight
Local MMA fighters Chris McNally and Mike Corvino will be featured in tonight's Fight Night at the Point in Mount Pleasant.
McNally, a veteran of nine mixed martial arts bouts, will take on David Mewborn (8-5-1). Corvino, a Summerville resident, will be making his pro debut against Terry McDaniel Jr. Corvino was 5-3-0 as an amateur fighter.
The mixed martial arts event will take place at the Omar Shrine Temple near Patriots Point beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $24-$40 and can be purchased at the door. For more information call, (843) 603-1115.
