Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire will play in the 2012 Carolina Challenge Cup, the host Charleston Battery said.
The Fire joins D.C. United and the Battery in next year's annual tournament, which features three MLS teams. The tournament will be held from Feb. 25 to March 3 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The Battery is expected to announce a third MLS team on Monday to round out the tournament field.
South Carolina (15-6) hosts Texas (11-8-1) in a first-round match of the NCAA women's tournament at 7 p.m. Friday.
The College of Charleston's Michael Topitzer was named CCSA diver of the week. He earned his first collegiate wins in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives against Davidson.
