The Goose Creek 10U All-Stars, playing in the 20-team Cal Ripken Southeast Regional, captured two victories on Friday to move their record to 3-0 after two days of action. They have secured a spot in the eight-team championship bracket, which begins this afternoon.

In Friday's first game, they defeated Ponte Vedra, Fla., 3-1. Goose Creek was led offensively by Travis Lott and Jackson Price, who had two hits apiece. Josh Davis earned the complete game win on the mound.

In the second game, they defeated Benton Co., Tenn., 10-3. Goose Creek was led by Josh Davis's 4 RBIs. Will McGuire was the winning pitcher.

--Jordan Hughes drove in the tying run in the top of the sixth inning with a double and scored on an error for the game-winning run as West Ashley edged Sarasota, Fla., 5-4 in the Cal Ripken 11U Southeast Regional in Mobile, Ala.

West Ashley plays Glen Allen, Va., today at 2 p.m. West Ashley is tied for the best record in pool play and will advance past pool play regardless of the result today.

College football

South Carolina picked up a commitment from linebacker Kaiwan Lewis (6-2, 228) of Hammonton, N.J. Lewis is considered one of the top prospects in New Jersey and one of the top linebackers in the country.

He picked the Gamecocks over Florida and Florida State. Lewis is the Gamecocks' 20th commitment for the upcoming signing class and the third linebacker.

On Friday afternoon, he called defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward to make the pledge.

Lewis will play middle linebacker for the Gamecocks. He said he's 100 percent solid with his commitment.
