MOUNT PLEASANT -- The College of Charleston men's soccer team battled No. 26 Princeton to a scoreless draw in front of 1,218 fans at Patriots Point in the Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Challenge on Friday night.
The teams played two 10-minute scoreless overtimes after 90 minutes of regulation.
Charleston (1-0-1) plays Rutgers at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Princeton (0-0-1) plays Furman at noon Sunday.
--Ben Myers and Amadou Dia scored as Clemson beat South Carolina, 2-0, in Clemson.
The Tigers improved to 1-1 in front of a crowd of 7,423 at Historic Riggs Field, setting a regular season attendance record at the facility.
The Gamecocks fell to 0-2.
Hannah Gmerek scored twice as the College of Charleston beat Murray State, 5-1, in the team's opening game of the University of South Florida tournament in Tampa, Fla.
Sarah Schaidle, Sarah Cardamone and Francesca Kentimenos also scored for the Cougars. Cricket Wise had five saves for the Cougars, who face Vanderbilt at noon Sunday.
--Vanessa Aponte had a pair of goals as The Citadel rolled to a 5-0 victory over USC Upstate (0-3-1) in The Citadel Nike Classic at WLI Field.
Grace Raines scored the first goal of her career and Ruth Leiva and Mariana Garcia also scored for the Bulldogs (2-1). Keeper Laura Serafino had six saves in the shutout.
The Bulldogs play Navy at noon Sunday.
--A goal in the 84th minute by Paloma Perez lifted Navy to a 1-0 win over Charleston Southern at Buccaneer Field.
Kenandra DeSaussure had a late shot on goal that went wide left as time expired for the Bucs, who host USC Upstate at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Citadel rallied from a set down to win a five-set thriller over Alabama State at the South Carolina State tournament in Orangeburg before falling to the host team later in the day.
Kaona Mercer had 14 kills, 15 digs and four blocks as the Bulldogs beat Alabama State 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10. Emily Dalton had a career-high 14 digs, while Alexa Dahlstrom had 35 assists for The Citadel.
But The Citadel fell 25-14, 27-25, 25-13 to S.C. State (2-3) in later action. Mercer had 11 kills and Rachael Farrell seven. Dahlstrom had 28 assists.
The Citadel (3-1) plays Claflin today at 11 a.m.
--College of Charleston rallied from a two-game deficit for a dramatic 19-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-22, 15-12 win over Harvard at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta.
Sarah Havel led College of Charleston (1-3) with 18 kills. Madelyn McGinnis had 12 kills and a career-best 20 digs. Emily Shelton had 29 digs, and Kallie McKown set a career high with 44 assists.
The Cougars face Jacksonville State at 11 a.m. today in tournament action.
--Charleston Southern fell 25-18, 25-11, 25-10 to Arkansas in Winston-Salem, N.C., in the Deacon Invitational
Kayla Klinger had 12 kills for CSU (0-5), while Amy Nokes had 11 assists. The Bucs face Wake Forest at noon today and North Florida at 4 p.m.
