Charleston Southern's Anthony Ellis was named to the College Football America Yearbook's FCS Starting Lineup, CFA's version of an All-America Team on Tuesday.
Ellis was named the 2017 Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season last week. The Apopka, Fla. native was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award in 2016 and earned All-America recognition from STATS, the Associated Press and Hero Sports last season. He was tabbed a 2017 preseason All-American by Athlon's in June.
Ellis was one of two Big South Conference players recognized on the team. Also recognized was Monmouth senior defensive back Mike Basile.
Ellis led the Big South with 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks last season.
The Buccaneers report for fall camp on Sunday and open practice on Aug. 1.
South Carolina guard Tyasha Harris and USA Basketball closed out a perfect 3-0 record in group play at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Udine, Italy, with a 66-49 victory over host Italy. Harris had 11 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists in 31 minutes of action.
The U.S. next faces Puerto Rico on Wednesday at noon.
The South Carolina Stingrays agreed to terms with rookie forward Robbie Baillargeon for the 2017-18 season. The native of Enfield, Conn. recently finished his college career at Arizona State and will make his professional debut with the Stingrays.
During the 2016-17 season with the Sun Devils, Baillargeon played in 28 games and tied for the team lead in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists. The 6-foot, 165-pound forward also played three seasons at Boston University.
