Defensive back Ronnie Martin of Spartanburg High announced a commitment to South Carolina on Wednesday, picking the Gamecocks over LSU.
The 5-10, 175-pounder also had offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Colorado and Maryland.
"He can help immediately in the kickoff game," his coach, Freddie Brown, said. "He ran a 4.3 (in the 40) this summer. ... He's a really good cover corner."
Martin made an unofficial visit to USC late last week. He is the 12th commitment for the 2011 class and the first high schooler from the state to commit to USC.
Georgia freshman defensive end Dexter Morant is leaving the team. Coach Mark Richt says Morant, from Manning, "lost the desire to play."
Richt said after Wednesday's practice he wishes the best for Morant, who he says is a "good kid." The coach says he tried to persuade Morant to stay with the team.
Meanwhile, Richt says receiver Tavarres King, who was charged with underaged possession of alcohol last month, is likely facing a one-game suspension.
