Sease still up by 1 in City Amateur

Winthrop golfer Christian Sease shot a 2-under-par 70 Saturday to retain his lead in the 2015 Charleston City Amateur golf tournament at Municipal Golf Course.

The former Wando golfer from Mount Pleasant is at 6-under-par 138 heading into Sunday’s final round, one shot ahead of Thomas Ellenburg who shot 3-under 69 Saturday.

Matt Metz moved into third place with a 69—141.

The tournament has golfers starting on 1 and 9, and Sease started his Saturday round with a par on No. 9 and followed that with an eagle-3. He added birdies at 13 and 15 to get to 4-under on the back nine, but shot 2-over on the front with back-to-back bogeys at 3 and 4.

Ellenburg, a former Fort Dorchester golfer, made three birdies and a bogey on the front nine and added another three birdies with two bogeys on the back nine.

Metz’s round included five birdies and two bogeys.

The field is flighted for Sunday’s final round, with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. and the leaders starting at 2:30 p.m. with all golfers starting off the No. 1 tee.
