Sand Gnats swat away RiverDogs

The Savannah Sand Gnats scored four runs in the 10th inning to take Game 1 of their three-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-2, on Monday night Riley Park.

Savannah’s rally started with a lead-off single by Dustin Lawley against Charleston’s Joel De La Cruz (2-1). Two more singles loaded the bases and an error then brought in the go-ahead run. Brandon Brown added insurance with a two-run single and Camden Maron’s single then made the score 6-2. The win for the Sand Gnats went to Jeffrey Walters (3-0), who pitched a scoreless ninth and a scoreless 10th to close it out.

The RiverDogs held Dogs With A Cause night sponsored by 105.5 The Bridge, this time featuring Camp Happy Days.

Charleston will send Brett Gerritse (0-0 4.50 ERA) against Savannah’s Jacob DeGrom (0-0 0.00 ERA). First pitch is 7 p.m. today.
