Honor Flight Lowcountry has announced a spring flight for World War II veterans who would like to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The flight date is set for Saturday, April 21, 2012. Up to 30 spaces remain available, though more may be added if demand calls for it. Veterans will fly for free on the charter plane.

Honor Flight is also seeking applications for guardian escorts who would like to accompany the veterans that day. Guardians are asked to donate $500 for the privilege of escorting the veterans.

Veteran and guardian applications can be found at the group's web site, www.Honorflightlowcountry.com.

Honor Flight Lowcountry is an all-volunteer organization founded in June of 2009 as part of the national effort to bring veterans to the monument on the grounds of the National Mall. More than 500 Lowcountry veterans have visited the memorial on the five previous Honor Flights from Charleston.
