RiverDogs walk to victory over Drive

GREENVILLE — Reymond Nunez drove in three runs and the Charleston RiverDogs took advantage of 14 walks to beat the Greenville Drive, 10-8, on Saturday night at Fluor Field.

The RiverDogs (23-16) led 10-5 in the ninth, then watched as the Drive (13-29) scored three runs to close to within two. But Brett Gerritse was able finish off the victory in front of 6,206 fans. With two outs, Cody Koback had an RBI single. Tim Roberson added an RBI single to cut it to 10-7. Drew Turocy added an RBI double, but a strikeout ended the game.

The RiverDogs scored four runs in the first inning on one hit, then added a single run in the second and third innings and another two in the fourth. Charleston capitalized on six first-inning walks to take a lead that it would not relinquish.

Nunez went 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the RiverDogs, while Claudio Custodio went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

The teams play again today at 4:05 p.m. Right-hander Austin Maddox (0-4, 8.51 ERA) gets the ball for the Drive, while left-hander Daniel Camarena (0-2, 6.75 ERA) takes the mound for the RiverDogs.
