AUGUSTA -- Three RiverDogs had three-hit games, and Josh Romanski won for the sixth time in seven starts, as Charleston outlasted Augusta, 8-4, in a South Atlantic League game at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Monday night.
The RiverDogs (20-17, 51-55 overall) have won six straight games for the first time since last September. The GreenJackets (18-18, 51-55) lost their third straight.
Charleston had four straight hits to start the third inning against Augusta's Craig Clark in assuming a 2-0 lead. Emerson Landoni doubled, Francisco Santana singled, while Slade Heathcott gave the RiverDogs the lead with a RBI single. After Kelvin Castro's bunt single loaded the bases, J.R. Murphy added a sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Castro hit a one-out single, stole second and took third on a throwing error, before coming home on Rob Lyerly's RBI single, giving the RiverDogs a 3-2 lead.
Luke Anders tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth with a homer to right, his 11th of the season.
Clark pitched five innings in a no-decision.
The RiverDogs barked back for three in the seventh in taking a 6-3 lead that would not be relinquished against reliever Hector Correa. Consecutive singles by Santana and Heathcott coupled with an Augusta error put second and third with no one out. Castro then contributed a two-run single to right field and took second on the throw home. Murphy's groundout moved him to third, and Lyerly's sacrifice fly brought him home.
Correa (3-3) surrendered three runs in two innings and lost to Charleston for the second time in as many appearances.
Charleston added two runs in the eighth, after DeAngelo Mack reached on an error and Landoni and Santana delivered back-to-back RBI singles, increasing the margin to 8-3.
Romanski (7-3) lasted six innings in the triumph, allowing three runs on nine hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Castro, Santana and Landoni all had three hits for the RiverDogs. Castro and Lyerly each had two RBIs.
Game 2 of the series is set for tonight at 7:05 p.m. Charleston will start right-hander Mike Solbach (2-3, 3.86 ERA) against Augusta righty Andy Reichard (2-0, 3.47 ERA).
