The Charleston RiverDogs earned another national honor for their unique approach as hosts of the South Atlantic League’s Home Run Derby held in June.
The competition was part of the league’s all-star game events. The first round of the event was held on the aircraft carrier Yorktown, and was voted the Best Promo of 2012 by MiLB.com.
The MiLBY Award presented to the RiverDogs comes after the team received the prestigious Golden Bobblehead Award, presented by Minor League Baseball for the best promotion of 2012, as well as the Ballpark Digest Award for the Best Promotion of the year awarded in September.
“We are ecstatic to receive another award for the Miller High Life Home Run Derby on the USS Yorktown,” said RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols. “It was a unique event that went off flawlessly, and we are pleased that fans of Minor League Baseball thought just as highly of it as everyone involved with the HR Derby here in Charleston did. Certainly it is an event that will not soon be forgotten.”
