Shorebirds 2, RiverDogs 0
DELMARVA, MD. -- Jacob Pettit tossed eight scoreless innings, and Manny Machado's third-inning home run helped power the Delmarva Shorebirds over the Charleston RiverDogs, 2-0, in South Atlantic League action Sunday afternoon.
Pettit (3-0) allowed five hits and walked one while striking out eight.
In the third inning, Delmarva's Jonathan Schoop legged out a two-out infield single before Machado homered for the second time in as many nights.
Kramer Sneed was excellent in six innings of work. He allowed two runs while scattering six hits and a walk, striking out four.
The RiverDogs (10-14) and Shorebirds (15-9) meet again in the third of their four-game series today at 7:05 pm.
Right-hander Zach Nuding (3-0, 3.54 ERA) is expected to start for Charleston, while right-hander Scott Copeland (1-0, 3.97) will start for Delmarva.
The RiverDogs return home for an eight-game homestand on Thursday when they host Lakewood.
