CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kelvin de Leon belted two homers as the Charleston RiverDogs routed the West Virginia Power, 16-2, in South Atlantic League baseball Friday at Appalachian Power Park.
The RiverDogs (24-9), who lead the SAL Southern Division, pounded out season highs of 16 runs on 19 hits, with de Leon going 4 for 5 with four RBIs, Benjamin Gamel going 3 for 6 with five RBIs, Angelo Gumbs going 3 for 6 with a homer and three RBIs and Dante Bichette Jr. going 3 for 4 with one RBI.
The Power fell to 11-24. Charleston struck first with three runs in the first inning. The RiverDogs chipped in a run apiece in the second, fourth, and eighth innings, and put up five runs in both the fifth and ninth innings.
Bryan Mitchell (3-2) threw six solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight to pick up his second straight win. John Brebbia pitched a scoreless final three innings to close it out.
Coiming up The teams face off for the fourth and final game of the series today. Charleston will send out right-hander Scottie Allen (1-2, 3.77 ERA) to try to complete the sweep, and West Virginia will counter with left-hander Zack Dodson (1-3, 5.72 ERA). First pitch is 2:05 p.m.
